The traveler encounters a closed border on the road to Kazakhstan, forcing him to alter his plans. Instead of cycling across, he returns to Kungrad to take a train across the border to Beyneu, Kazakhstan. After arriving in Beyneu amidst heavy snow, he purchases local mobile data, buys essential winter riding gear (including a long padding jacket and warm shoes) at the local bazaar, and stays at Hotel Dostyk while enjoying a hot bowl of ramen.
